"The Genie of the Lamp" is the twentieth chapter of Kingdom Hearts. It was first collected in Kingdom Hearts Volume 2 by Tokyopop and republished in Kingdom Hearts Final Mix Volume 1 by Yen Press.

Synopsis Edit

Aladdin summons the Genie of the lamp and wishes that Sora, Donald Duck, and Goofy be rescued from the quicksand. After an extravagant entrance and urging by Donald, Genie snaps his fingers and saves them. Sora thanks Aladdin for helping them, and he tells them how lucky they were that he passed by as caravans hardly pass. He asks why they were in the desert and Goofy begins to tell them about their Gummi Ship until Sora redirects the question by asking Aladdin about the reason he was in the desert. Aladdin tells them that he was hunting legendary treasure in the Cave of Wonders where he found Genie's magic lamp. Genie interrupts by saying he's there to grant his master any three wishes. He asks Aladdin what he wants for wish number two and Sora questions his powers, asking if he can make any wish come true. Genie mentions that there are a few exceptions. Goofy whispers to Donald that the Genie could possibly find the King, but Donald doubts it. Genie once again asks Aladdin for his second wish and he pauses, before deciding that the Genie could make him a prince so he can propose to Jasmine. Before Genie can grant the wish, Aladdin tells him to wait until they reach Agrabah, but Genie isn't bothered by his decision to wait and he explains that he doesn't see much of the outside world due to being trapped in his "portable prison." Aladdin tells Genie that he'll use his last wish to free Genie from the lamp.

Meanwhile, Abu is riding the magic Carpet through the desert, determined to tell Aladdin about what happened to Jasmine.

Trivia Edit

  • The front cover is a reference to the movie Aladdin with Sora, Donald, and Goofy dressed similarly to "Prince Ali" and riding an elephant-transformed Abu.
  • Aladdin's first wish is to save Sora, Donald, and Goofy from the quicksand when in the game, it was to get rid of Heartless.
