The Queen of Hearts is enraged at Sora, Donald Duck, and Goofy's interference. She demands their identity and scolds them for interrupting with the court. Sora claims that he knows who the true culprit is. Goofy begins to answer that it's the Heartless, but Donald interrupts him and whispers that if they mention the dark creatures, then they'll be deeply involved with the world. As they lack evidence, the Queen locks Alice in a cage and adjourns the court until they bring back evidence. Sora promises Alice that they'll find evidence, but Donald asks where they'll be able to do so. Alice tells the group of the Cheshire Cat she met in the woods and theorizes that he may know something. She attempts to warn them, but a Card Soldier interrupts, telling them that they cannot speak with the defendant.
In the Lotus Forest, Sora suggests telling the Queen about the Heartless, reasoning that they're already deeply interfering with the world. Donald immediately refuses. He claims that mentioning that people should reside in their own worlds and that bringing up the Heartless would cause confusion and must be kept a secret. The trio is interrupted by the Cheshire Cat who claims to know everything. He hands a box to Sora, claiming that the evidence they seek is hidden in the box. As he disappears, he voices the option that is faced before Sora - to trust or not to trust him. Sora decides to open the box, releasing a Soldier that runs back to the courtyard.
The Card Soldiers and the Queen of Hearts are confused by the creature with the Queen demanding to know its identity. Sora answers that it's the evidence and as it attacks the Queen, destroys it. He tells the Queen that the Soldier proves Alice's innocence and demands that she'd be let go. Donald and Goofy quickly lower Alice's cage, but discover that it is empty.
